Memories
My memories of the junior school are not real happy, Miss Coyle was my problem, she often hit me with the rule.
I became a altar boy with a lad called Hayes. I think he married a girl called Pam Wilson from Tang Hall.
I was confirmed at St George's. The parish priest was Cannon O'Conner or O'Connell. I can't remember the name of the other priest but if someone said his name I would remember.
I remember the terrible meals served up to us, and yes they did bully us to eat the trash, how else would they get rid of IT. I don't care what anybody says the word is YUK!!!! I couldn't go home because Mam worked at the hospital and Dad at the railway carriage works. After many arguments, I persuaded Mam to give me two shillings on a Friday, that was lots of money then, it bought me a big fish and chips meal with mushie peas at the chip shop in Walmgate just before the bridge at Fossgate, and then a bag of broken biscuits from Woolies, what a treat that was. I was like a camel because that lasted me through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.
