Castlegate Girls and Infants School

Castlegate Council School was opened in January 1913 in the premises of the former Castlegate Higher Grade School which were purchased by the corporation for £10,000. Accommodation was provided for 530 girls and infants; the infant department of Bedern School was transferred to Castlegate. In 1913 278 girls and 252 infants were enrolled. The school was reorganized and in 1932 there were junior mixed and infant departments only. There were 136 children enrolled in these two departments in 1938. The school was closed in 1954 when the children were transferred to Fishergate and other city schools. The building was acquired by the Technical College.
