Haxby Road Council School was opened in 1904 in a
new building. There were mixed and infants' departments. The cost was
£19,115. In 1907 the accommodation was said to be for 1,156 children,
there were then 956 children enrolled. There were senior mixed, junior
mixed, and infants' departments in 1910. The senior mixed department
closed before 1932; there were then 317 enrolled in the junior mixed and
130 in the infants' departments. The organization of these schools was
unchanged in 1956, when there were 310 in the junior and 190 in the
infants' school.
